How To Hide Voice Recording On Iphone

I have one app like this but it's not reliable. It doesn't always record and it charges you to play back the recording. I just need to be able to record my surroundings without it being seen on the screen. Hopefully free or cheap. Anyone know of an app like this?

This one will continue to record when you double tap to put it in multitasking. Just switch to another app while recording. Start Record, then double tap and switch to home screen or elsewhere. A red bar will show at the top, but shouldn't be noticed. You can try and see. Any voice recorder probably will work that way. This one I tested.

Not sure of an app that does that, but if you find one and decide to record someone else without their knowledge, be sure to check the laws in your state. It is illegal in some states to record someone without their knowledge or consent.

Most states allow it, but as you mentioned, it is important to check:

"Federal law permits recording telephone calls and in-person conversations with the consent of at least one of the parties. See 18 U.S.C. 2511(2)(d). This is called a "one-party consent" law. Under a one-party consent law, you can record a phone call or conversation so long as you are a party to the conversation."

Eleven states require the consent of every party to a phone call or conversation in order to make the recording lawful. These "two-party consent" laws have been adopted in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington

For iPad only, I have a partial solution, but I too seek an app that doesn't flash its recording status to the world. I'd be interested in having this in either iPad or iPhone if not both.

What I *can* offer is that Voice Record Pro—while painfully visible on iPhones in both locked and unlocked screens—is much more discreet on my iPad after the latest update. Now, there is a tiny icon in the shape of a microphone off to the side, next to other icons. Unless someone is ACTIVELY looking for it, it is pretty inconspicuous.

I wish the same app would display the same way on my iPhone. I also wish there was a stealth mode that made it invisible or able to be accessed only if you know what folder to look in.

It's not always for something nefarious. I have done home documentaries for family, and when they know they're being recorded at that moment, they freeze up and make mistakes versus when they feel the pressure is off and behave normally as a result.
